The Adria Airways management board will present the letter of intent at the next session of the supervisory board, at which the future of the Airbus fleet will be defined. As has already been announced, the Adria management board intends to replace the existing Airbus 320 fleet with new, modern Airbus 319 aircraft. The Airbus 319 is part of the Airbus 320 family and therefore retraining of cockpit crews, flight attendants and technicians will not be necessary. The Airbus 319 represents a more rational and environmentally friendly solution than the existing fleet, with CO2 emissions that meet the CO2 emissions standards due to enter into force in 2011. The seating configuration of the aircraft allows for approximately 140 seats, which is rational for the type of service operated by Adria. The list price of the Airbus 319 is around USD 45 million.
The Adria pilots’ union has been informed of the management board’s plans and supports the efforts to modernise the Airbus fleet. The management board is planning the successive replacement of the Airbus fleet by 2013. In this way the board has fulfilled its strategic plans regarding the modernisation of the entire Adria Airways fleet. As reported previously, Adria has already modernised its Canadair fleet with four new CRJ 900 aircraft. This means that the Airbus 319 will be the fifth new aircraft acquired in the last three years.
