An exhibition was set up today at Ljubljana Castle to mark the 20th anniversary of Adria In-Flight Magazine, which is published for its passengers by Adria Airways. The occasion was also used to display the new flight crew uniforms.
The Adria In-Flight Magazine was first published in June 1988. At that time Adria Airways was mainly a charter carrier, so the magazine was published in German and English. Later, as the composition of passengers changed (with increasing scheduled flights), the Slovenian-English version was the one that took hold, and this is the version that passengers read today on scheduled and charter Adria Airways flights. “Twenty years of the magazine reflect the life and times that went with it, and the magazine marked outstanding events in the history of the newly created country as well as following the fortunes of Adria Airways, which grew from a small charter carrier at that time into one of the leading airlines in the region. This is why at Adria we decided to mark the anniversary in the form of an exhibition. This takes you through the magazine covers, presents the authors that have collaborated on it and shows the development of its content and design. Just a fleeting glance at the actual content confirms the fascinating history of that period,” explains the editor-in-chief of In-flight Magazine, Barbara Mihevc Bukovec.
The magazine is currently published six times a year. Its primary purpose is still to present the airline, the range of flights and safety guidelines, but its editorial concept long ago went beyond this and it has become one of the most attractive tourist magazines on the market. In this way the magazine offers readers a glimpse of fascinating places, both in Slovenia and around the world, where the emphasis is on destinations to which passengers can travel with Adria Airways. The reader is captivated by the high quality of the photographs and excellent stories, all linked in to the familiar visual image of the magazine itself, provided since 1994 by Luks Studio. The quality of the magazine has also been recognised on the international stage, and in 2000 in San Francisco it received the prestigious Golden Quill Award of Excellence, which is awarded by the IABC, the International Association of Business Communicators.
Meanwhile the winter timetable, which starts at the end of October, will bring one more new feature to Adria Airways. In November, flight crews as well as ground and sales staff will greet you in an entirely new image. The new line of clothing is inspired by the spirit of the high-glamour days of airline travel during the sixties and seventies. The outfits have a slightly retro feel, with the revival of hats and gloves. The predominant colour is once again blue, in light and darker shades, and this is complemented by white and pearl-grey, with badges and name tags in silver metal.
The pilot uniforms remain dark blue with gold insignia. The uniforms are of high-quality materials with the emphasis on attention to detail and fine tailoring. They are entirely Slovenian-made: production of the uniforms was taken on by the garment company Labod, in cooperation with the designer Jelena Proković and in consultation with Barbara Žnidar and Sašo Radovič; accessories were made by the companies Šešir, Peko, Svilanit Svila, Monteko, Pletenine Ros, Bas, Heledi’s and Jazon.
