Iberia to Deploy Electronic Documentation System for Freight Ops

Madrid, 19.09.08 // Before the end of this year, Iberia will implement a new electronic documentation system for air cargo shipments, initially for routes between Spain and Frankfurt, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, in compliance with the Spanish e-Freight project defined by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Iberia was chosen by IATA to pioneer the project, because of its leadership in the air freight market, its strategic location in both Europe and Latin America, and its efficiency in instituting paperless e-tickets in its domestic and international passenger business.

In addition, Iberia has already adopted e-documentation for domestic freight shipments via the “Iberia Cargo e-AWB” electronic waybill, the most important of the 13 separate paper documents now used for each air shipment. Under the e-Freight scheme, these will all be replaced by e-documents.

The new procedures, devised by a group of air freight experts directed and coordinated by Iberia, will save time, reduce costs, cut paper consumption, and increase efficiency.
