FORT WORTH , Texas, September 5, 2008 – American Airlines is again partnering with the American Red Cross to provide aid during the United States 2008 hurricane season. AAdvantage® members can help by contributing to the Red Cross to support its Hurricanes of 2008 relief activities. Donations will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of this year’s hurricanes.
AAdvantage members will receive a one-time award of 250 bonus AAdvantage miles for a minimum donation of $50, or 500 bonus miles for a donation of $100 or more, to the Red Cross through Sept. 30, 2008. Contributions to the Red Cross can be made online at http://american.redcross.org/americanairlines-pub. To receive bonus miles, AAdvantage members need to forward the e-mail donation acknowledgment from the Red Cross to ReliefMiles@aa.com. Members should not change the subject line in the e-mail, but should include their AAdvantage number when forwarding the e-mail.
Even as Hurricane Gustav neared the Gulf Coast, American and American Eagle employees set in motion efforts to aid evacuees, and they continue to raise funds and provide assistance.
“While we are grateful that the Gulf Coast was spared extensive damage by Hurricane Gustav, we are well aware that hurricane season can bring renewed threats to lives and property,” said Roger Frizzell, American’s Vice President – Corporate Communications and Advertising. “By partnering with the American Red Cross, we can ensure that contributions will support timely and effective aid to the millions of people affected by widespread flooding and damage in hurricane-ravaged areas.
“Our heartfelt appreciation goes to the American and American Eagle employees who have, as always, moved so swiftly – both to volunteer their time and raise funds to assist evacuees and others affected by this most recent storm. We invite our customers to join us in this important effort, and we are happy to acknowledge their generosity with this opportunity to earn AAdvantage miles.”
