American Airlines, which has served the Raleigh/Durham market since 1985, is relocating its operations to Raleigh/Durham International Airport’s new Terminal 2 on Sunday, Oct. 26. American, a founding member of the one world ® Alliance, previously operated from Terminal C, which will be demolished in the coming weeks to make way for the second phase of the Terminal 2 project.
American and American Eagle, which together operate more than 50 daily departures at RDU, will occupy eight of the north concourse’s 19 gates. Twelve ticket counter positions, with an island designed to ease congestion, along with 12 self-service devices will offer a smooth check-in process. Seven security checkpoint lanes will help customers move through security quickly, and three baggage carousels will deliver luggage in a timely fashion. The concourse also features 26 specialty retail shops and restaurants and two moving walkways.
“American and American Eagle are delighted to move into the bright, new facilities in Terminal 2,” said Tom Del Valle, American’s Senior Vice President – Airport Services. “Our customers will enjoy the spaciousness of the new terminal, as well as our terrific new Admirals Club ® lounge.”
As part of the move, American will open the doors to its new Admirals Club lounge located across from gates C1 and C3 on the Mezzanine Level. With more than 5,000 square feet, the facility seats 121 members and guests. Open Sunday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., the new lounge offers light complimentary snacks, juice, tea, coffee and soft drinks. Admirals Club lounges also offer delicious fare ranging from seasonal salads, hot and savory soups, fresh sandwiches and wraps, small bites for a quick snack, and dessert items for purchase through its food and beverage program, Amora™ . Members receive personal assistance with boarding passes, reservations, seat selection and upgrades.
“We are pleased to open a new Admirals Club lounge as part of the airline’s relocation to Terminal 2,” said Nancy Knipp, American’s President – Admirals Club. “Our new facility offers a variety of amenities that Admirals Club visitors are certain to enjoy.”
Admirals Club customers can take advantage of the multi-functional business center, which includes Lenovo personal computers with complimentary high-speed Internet access, PC data ports, telephones, printers, copiers and fax service. Other amenities include a cyber café, spa-like shower facilities, flat-panel televisions, and a corporate conference room available for rent.
Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available for Admirals Club members, as well as individuals using a One-Day Pass to access the Admirals Club facilities. High-speed Wi-Fi access is available at most locations through a subscription to T-Mobile for all other visitors. The club is the latest to offer a new global printing solution, powered by PrinterOn, making it possible for users to submit print requests via e-mail or Web page uploads from any location and pick up printed materials from the lounge.
As part of the Raleigh/Durham Admirals Club grand opening, American is offering a $50 discount for new annual memberships purchased now through Dec. 31, 2008. In addition, existing members eligible for renewal can enjoy $25 off the membership renewal fee. Both purchases and renewals must be made in person by Dec. 31, 2008, at the Raleigh/Durham Admirals Club lounge.
